Book on WhatsAppRohtang Pass sits at 3,978 meters above sea level on the Manali-Leh Highway. It's one of Himachal Pradesh's most visited mountain attractions, offering views of snow-capped peaks even in summer. The Himachal Pradesh government charges ₹50 per vehicle for entry — a small fee that supports road maintenance and local conservation efforts.
The permit system was introduced to regulate traffic and preserve the Rohtang ecosystem. Without a valid permit, your vehicle won't be allowed entry. The good news: the process is simple, and we handle it completely for you.
Best time to visit: May to October. Winter (November–April) the pass is often closed due to heavy snow. Check weather updates before planning.
What to expect: Temperature drops 3–5°C for every 1,000 meters in altitude. At Rohtang (3,978 m), it can be 15–20°C colder than Manali. Carry warm clothes even in summer. Avoid going if you have altitude sickness concerns.
Road conditions: The road is well-maintained. Driving time from Manali to Rohtang is about 1 hour. The final 2 km is a steep climb; hire a local driver if you're not comfortable with mountain roads.
What to do at Rohtang: Hire a ponies, visit nearby snow patches, photograph the Himalayas, enjoy local snacks at food stalls, watch paragliders launch from the ridge.
Atal Tunnel: Your permit also grants access to the Atal Tunnel, which connects Manali to Leh. It's the world's highest highway tunnel (3,144 m). If you're heading toward Leh or Ladakh, this is included in your ₹50.
